What is a VPN?
A VPN, or virtual private network, creates an encrypted connection between your device and a remote VPN server. Websites and online services then usually see the VPN server's IP address instead of your device's normal public IP address.

When a VPN is active, your device sends network traffic through a secure tunnel to the VPN server. The server forwards that traffic to the internet and sends replies back through the same tunnel. This can help protect traffic on public Wi-Fi and can reduce how much your local network can see about your browsing activity.

What a VPN cannot guarantee
A VPN is not complete anonymity. The VPN server you choose still handles your traffic, and websites can still use cookies, logins, browser fingerprinting, and account activity to recognize you. You should still use HTTPS websites, strong passwords, and good privacy habits.
